Multi-Purpose Fly Fishing Outfit

Hello Jose, I've enjoyed your shows for a long time and would like your opinion on a fly fishing outfit for a trip my wife is giving me for my 50th birthday. We'll be coming to the Keys and fishing with Capt. Joe Rodriguez in October. Capt. Joe said that I can use his gear and I just might do that but I also go striper fishing with my brothers up at Cape Cod and also the Chesapeake Bay,so I'd like something I can use at different places and maybe just change lines.I like the outfits you use on your shows, and if it was up to me I would have several saltwater rigs but as my wife says, I can have only so many toys so I'm looking for something universal.

Thanks for any help, and looking forward to watching more of your shows.

Hey Steve,

I would go with a 9 weight outfit with a G.Loomis Crosscurrent rod and aTibor Quick Change reel. The QC lets you have one reel and several different spools that you can change depending on the situation. I usually have a floating line on one spool and a intermediate mono core on the other.

This setup would work well for you as the floating 9 would be good for Snook, Bonefish, Redfish and small Tarpon in Florida and then changing over to the intermediate line it would work perfect for most of the striper fishing you would encounter in Cape Cod or the Chesapeake. The only thing you could add for the stripers would be an extra spool with a 400-600 grain shooting head to get your fly down.

Hope that helps...

Capt. Jose Wejebe
