JM Associates is the production company
for the Spanish Fly... That's kind of like saying that
Michael Jordan is a guy who plays basketball.
JM has been around since the 1980's when they produced
the first outdoors show ever on ESPN. That show was "the
Fishing Hole with Jerry McKinnis".
Jerry
McKinnis is in fact the leader of the band of JM Associates
and he is fondly known as "the Hammer". Jerry
without a doubt is the most innovative and farsighted
person I know. He has assembled an incredible and talented
group of cameramen, editors, and producers that makes
the machine of JM Associates. They are responsible not
only for Spanish Fly, but stuff like STIHL Timbersports
Series, Citgo Bass Master Tournament Trail, The Redfish
Cup and others too numerous to mention.
These folks eat, live and breathe outdoor programming
and it is humbling to see them when they are in "full
on mode”. I have gotten a chance to be behind the
scenes at some of these events and it is nothing short
of amazing to see six cameramen going each in a different
direction and on a different boat at 5 AM. Then they get
back to the dock at 3PM to turn over what they shot to
the editors and producers in the mobile production unit.
Next, the editors have to pound through miles of tape
to get something cut by 6PM! To do this with any degree
of success, it takes a tremendous team effort from people
who are hard working, dedicated and creative.
These are some of the people that work on Spanish Fly
and you'll get a chance to get to know them a little better
in the Crewhole.

Every one arguing about how to get all the
gear in the plane from Belem to Alta Mira,
Brazil. After 2 hours of getting nowhere,
Wes takes over and stuffs the plane so full
that the door barely closed. It was dicey
on the take-off, but we made it.... never
tell a camera guy that it won't fit.

Greg Goodwin shooting the guideās meeting
at Zingu River, Brazil. This is where we get
together with the local guides and see what
they would recommend using .... I brought
about 300 lures, the guides only liked 5 of
them..... oh well.

Ready to roll with Ricardo Burrus at Sandy
Point, Bahamas. We dove up a bunch of conch
and lobster in the morning and caught a bunch
of bonefish in the afternoon. The full-flavored
Bahamian experience.

World class photographer Jeff Stine takes
some behind the scenes stuff at Sandy Point
Abaco.

Matt McKinnis and Wes shootin on a beach on
some island with no name in Panama. We got
there by a mothership called the Coral Star
that sailed from David. It was a beautiful
spot with palm trees and all sorts of exotic
plants...... We also found a wooden box opened
at both ends with a toiletseat nailed to the lip of one end...hmmm...makes
you think. |

Tim Schick and I traveling by riverboat past
the century old Vero Pesso fish market in
Belem, Brazil.

Matt Mckinnis contemplating something as he
gazes over the water...maybe the meaning of
life, ...or maybe he is just trying to frame
the shot.

Camera set up to do a time lapse of a sunset
at Crooked Island, Bahamas.

Tim Schick filming Ian Sulocki and myself
in the Xingu River, Brazil. Ian is a local
guide who looks exactly like John Travolta.

The Bro's get together for a group hug on
no name island, David, Panama.

Looking for reds in the Indian River with
Captain John Turcott on the poling platform
in the foreground. In the background is a
crane barge that has a movable camera mounted
on the end of a movable crane. The rig was
put together and manned by Jordy Klien. Jordy
also happens to be the kid who played "Bud"
in the Flipper series a long time ago.

Tim and Wes each shooting a different angle
for the same scene. This was at Sandy Point,
Bahamas fishing with Ricardo Burrus. This
little creek opened up into an interior lagoon
that was full of bonefish.
