Some
the greatest adventures in sport fishing are highlighted each
week on ESPN2’s longest running outdoor program, The Spanish
Fly. Host Jose Wejebe is happy to share his journeys, whether
on his home waters of the Florida Keys, or in some exotic locale
like Venezuela, Costa Rica or even Brazil.
Jose Wejebe is the star of Spanish Fly and one of the most respected
fishing guides on the blue planet. Jose started fishing on Miami
beaches as a boy after his family fled Castro’s revolution
in the 1960’s. Today, he is in his prime sharing his passion
for fishing with millions. Jose gives Spanish Fly its comfortable,
casual, hip style. But he’s quick to share the credit.
“Every once in a while”, he says, “you find
a team where everything clicks perfectly. That’s what
we have with the Spanish Fly”.
The
show is produced by Mike McKinnis of JM Associates, a production
company synonymous with outdoor programming and pioneers in
the art. The JM Crew and Jose turn Spanish Fly into first rate
television. Contemporary. Adventurous. Polished. From its three
camera shoots to music ranging from hot Latin salsa and Schubert
Waltzes, Spanish Fly has a look and feel like no other program
on the air. “This is a great team,” says Jose Wejebe.
“We work very hard to capture the passion and adventure
of the world’s most spectacular fishing; and we are always
thinking of the viewer because we want to give them something
to savor, something to remember and that’s the magic of
Spanish Fly.”
